The Comedy of Errors

Set and Lighting Design (and Direction) by Jon Ares.

February 2003.

Written by William Shakespeare. Directed by Jon Ares. Costume Design by Cheryl Cantwell. Scenic Painting by Elesa Douglas.

Performed in the physical style of Commedia del’Arte — and physical it was! Scenically, it was like a perspective story book — a popup book, perhaps.

Placed in Venetia in the late 1600’s, I used a palette of colors once visible in Venice (and still is, if you look hard enough!)… we let the set do most of the over-the-top color, and kept the costumes more monochromatic.
